Main duties of 8222 Supervisors, Oil and Gas Drilling and Service:
Supervisors in this unit group execute some or all of the following duties:
o Supervise, synchronize and plan the activities of workers who drill for oil and gas, operate service rigs or provide oil and gas well services.
o Set up methods to meet work schedules and bring together work activities with other departments.
o Demand materials and supplies.
o Resolve work problems and advise measures to improve productivity.
o Train workers in job duties, security procedures and business policies
o Recommend workers actions such as hiring and promotions
o Organize production and other reports
o May set up machines and apparatus.
Employment requirements for 8222 Supervisors, Oil and Gas Drilling and Service:
1. Achievement of secondary school is requisite.
2. Completion of college or Petroleum Industry Training Service (PITS) courses is vital.
3. Wide experience of up to eight years in the occupations supervised is required.
4. A two-year college diploma in petroleum engineering technology may be necessary.
5. Certificates in first aid, hydrogen sulphide awareness, blowout prevention, well control, workplace hazardous materials information system (WHMIS), transportation of dangerous goods (TDG) or other safety and technical subjects are required and are obtained by completing small courses.
