If you want to renew your study permit or extend your stay in Canada as a student, you have to complete the Application to Change Conditions  . First of all, check the expiry date on your study permit, and ensure you submit an application before that expiry of your previous visa. Keep in mind that you should submit an application for renewal at least 30 days prior to your current study permit expires.

In case you submit an application for a renewal or extension of your study permit and the permit expires before you take delivery of an answer, you can carry on to study in Canada under the similar conditions until you receive a result.

If your student visa has expired, and you have not applied for a renewal, you have to leave Canada.

Canada wants more Indian students to in Canadian colleges

The reception rate for Indian students approaching to study at a group of Canadian colleges has doubled. This is due to a new program between Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC).

A combined pilot project called the Student Partners Program was started in April 2009 linking Canada’s visa offices in India and twenty member colleges of the ACCC. The objective of the program is to boost the approval speed for study permit applications at contributing Canadian colleges.

The Student Partners Program has resulted in a boost in the figure of Indian students on campuses of Canadian Colleges. International students carry with them new ideas and experiences and give both financially and ethnically to the communities and institutions where they learn.

The total figure of global students in Canada has more than twice since 1998 to 178,000 and their existence provided job for over 83,000 Canadians last year. A 2009 study specially made by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada found worldwide students contributed more than $6.5 billion to the Canadian economy in 2008.

This type of program benefits both students as well as Canada. These graduates may stay in Canada and apply to immigrate under the Canada Experience Class. They would make Canada their home and carry on to contribute to Canada’s social and economic fabric.

Canada’s network of community colleges offers a lot of wonderful programs to train young Canadians and their corresponding person from around the world for the opportunities of today's financial system.

The Government of Canada will carry on to look at ways to give confidence international students to study in Canada.

Can I work in Canada on Student Visa?

Thousands of students come to Canada every year for study. But they always have one question i.e. Can I do a job in Canada on student visa?

The Canadian law requires that you have to come to Canada with sufficient funds to pay for your tuition and living costs at the same time as you are studying in Canada, without needing to work. But there are some specific hours per week to which you can work

Each Province in Canada has its own set of laws to allow you weekly permitted hours of work. In general you are supposed to work in Canada during your stay at study permit with only one exception i.e. if you are enrolled on a program of English as a second language than you will not permitted to work in Canada.

Do not work exclusive of being authorized to do so and do not work more than legally permitted hours failing which you might be asked to leave Canada.

Canada wants more foreign students

The honorable Canadian Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney has publicized that Canada will significantly boost its targets of overseas student in 2009.

Canada greeted almost 82 thousand overseas students in the year 2008 which is the highest number of incoming foreign students entered on Canada Student Visa in the past 10 years. Though, it is not much sufficient for Minister Kenney, when monitored Canada against Australia which brings in 10 times more undergraduate and graduate students from India. Minister Kenney added that Canada is looking towards Asia in addition to India for prospective students.

He has not up till now defined exact targets of incoming foreign students, but has been noting down the significance of foreign students and the explanation why enhancement of incoming foreign students is justified. So the people who apply for student visa of Canada have the option, during their studies inside Canada, to get familiar with Canada's labor market along with putting themselves on a quicker path to immigrate to Canada in the course of the recently started “Canadian Experienced Class”.

Minister Kenney also stated “We like the Canada Student Visa applications which later on become Canadian Experience Class for the reason that we can get youth who have done qualification in Canada, have enhanced language skills, have previously done the majority of the difficult tasks towards economic integration, and don't have any foreign degree obstacles to prevail over. These are ideal applicants for Permanent Residence and economic emigrants to Canada."

During past years, Canada became a more attractive target for persons looking to study abroad. This is because of improved sponsorship efforts abroad by Canadian educational institutions together with changes in immigration system over some past years.
